"The Nap" is a very funny look at the world of snooker – the British version of pool. Dylan Spokes, a fast-rising young star arrives for a championship tournament only to be confronted by the authorities warning him of the repercussions of match fixing. Before he knows it, Dylan’s forced into underhanded dealings with a cast of wildly colorful characters that include his ex-convict dad, saucy mum, quick-tongued manager and a renowned gangster, to boot. It’s a fast-paced comedy thriller where, in an exciting twist, the tournament unfolds live on stage.
In its British premiere, The Guardian raved, “Ingenious,” The Observer cheered, “Outrageously funny,” and The Daily Mail called "The Nap" “brilliant and terrifically inventive.” Directing is Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Snooker — the British version of pool — is played out right before your eyes in the Broadway bow of “The Nap.” From Richard Bean, author of the celebrated comedy “One Man, Two Guvnors,” the new play begins with Dylan Spokes arriving for a championship tournament. However, it isn’t long before he starts to believe the match is fixed.
Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, the fast-paced sports comedy introduces audiences to a plethora of kooky characters, including Waxy Chuff, a transgender gangster and beauty salon owner; Dylan’s alcoholic mother, Stella, and his ex-convict father; and his quick-tongued manager. All the while, a snooker table is set centerstage — for the high-stakes competition that takes place in real time.
Adult themes and language. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
What to watch for
“The Nap” was originally staged in Sheffield’s Crucible theatre, also home to the snooker World Championships.
Despite the show centering on snooker, playwright Richard Bean says his game of choice is cricket.
While match fixing is at the heart of “The Nap,” playwright Richard Bean says: “I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I have never cheated once in any game in my life.”
