About Kiss Me, Kate

In the constellation of musical comedy masterpieces, Kiss Me, Kate shines as perhaps Broadway's most sparkling achievement. This is the winner of the first-ever Tony Award for Best Musical, alive with onstage romance, backstage passion, comedy high and low, a dash of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and a stylish, sexy, sophisticated songbook that includes “Too Darn Hot,” “So In Love” and “Always True To You In My Fashion.” Once again, Roundabout catapults you to musical comedy heaven, with a brand-new Kiss Me, Kate.

Featuring Kelli O’Hara, Will Chase, and Corbin Bleu, with direction from Scott Ellis and choreography from Warren Carlyle.

More information about Kiss Me, Kate

It’s another opening of another revival of “Kiss Me, Kate”! This time, Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara stars as leading lady Lilli Vanessi — a celebrated actor co-starring with her ex-husband, Fred Graham, in a musical production of William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew.” The show-within-a-show casts the egotistical exes as Katherine and Petruchio, and hilarity ensues both onstage and off. Add in a secondary romance between Lois Lane, the actor playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend — plus a couple of gangsters and backstage shenanigans — and you have a Shakespeare classic turned on its head.

Cole Porter’s battle of the sexes is back on Broadway for the first time in 20 years under the direction of Scott Ellis, who also helmed the 2016 Roundabout Theatre Company concert presentation of the theatrical staple. Find out if the toxic twosome loves to hate each other or just hates love each other. Brush up your Shakespeare!

What to watch for

In 1949, “Kiss Me, Kate” won the first Tony Award for Best Musical.

Todd Haimes, the artistic director of Roundabout Theatre Company, revealed that Roundabout has been talking about their next project with Kelli O’Hara “for years.” “It is particularly thrilling to celebrate her return to Roundabout in a role that will showcase her impeccable range and virtuosic talent as a singer, actress and comedienne, just as she did in our production of ‘The Pajama Game’ a decade ago.”

This will be the third Broadway production of “Kiss Me, Kate,” following its original 1948 production and 1999 revival.
