About Head Over Heels

"Head Over Heels" is the bold and fierce new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Avenue Q" and "Spring Awakening." Set to the iconic music of the 1980's all-female rock band The Go-Go's, it includes the hit songs “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle's “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and many more!

It's a hilarious and sexy celebration of love in all its infinite varieties, told through the story of a royal family that must embark on an extravagant journey to save their beloved kingdom and find love and acceptance.

“'Head Over Heels' is simply an outrageously over-the-top good time. It may be the most fun you will ever have in a theater!” (Bay Area Theatre Critics Association)

More information about Head Over Heels

Our lips are sealed when it comes to the new Broadway musical that takes its beat straight from The Go-Go’s catalogue of hits. But what we can say is that “Head Over Heels,” produced by Gwyneth Paltrow, is an epic Elizabethan love story turned on its head. Conceived by Jeff Whitty, the book writer of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical “Avenue Q,” and written by James Magruder, the story is adapted from a 16th century prose piece by Sir Philip Sidney that was later dramatized into “The Arcadia” by James Shirley — but with a fresh take for 2018 and a musical flashback to the 1980s.

When the gender-fluid Oracle of Delphi comes to town with an important message for the royal family, they are forced to change their ways and open their minds. Expect pop hits, including “We Got the Beat,” “Get Up and Go,” “Vacation,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Head Over Heels,” and Belinda Carlisle’s solo tunes “Mad About You” and “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.” You’ll certainly fall head over heels for this musical.

Recommended for 12 + Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

What to watch for

“Head Over Heels” is the fourth show to play Broadway’s Hudson Theatre since it reopened in 2017 with the revival of “Sunday in the Park With George.”

Peppermint, the runner up on the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” is the first performer who identifies as a trans woman to originate a principal role on Broadway.

The song “Automatic Rainy Day” has been turned into what cast member Taylor Iman Jones calls a “really epic belt-off” with co-star Bonnie Milligan.

The show had its world premiere at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2015, and played at Curran in San Francisco in 2018 before coming to Broadway.
